What Buyers Should Confirm Before Requesting a Quote

A useful quotation starts with the product and presentation goal, not only an outside box size. The six inputs below help our team review structure, production route and sample requirements.

01

Product Data

Provide the actual product, accurate dimensions and weight, plus accessories, documents and intended presentation direction.

02

Box Structure

Share drawings, samples or references for hinged lids, drawers, lift-off covers, trays, display stands or multi-piece sets.

03

Material & Finish

Explain whether grain should remain visible or whether a controlled matte, gloss, painted, veneered or lacquered surface is preferred.

04

Branding & Interior

Send vector logo artwork, brand colors, lining direction and any requirements for EVA, sponge, velvet, trays or dividers.

05

Order Information

State quantity, target market, desired timing, packing requirements and whether a pre-production sample is required.

06

Approval Reference

Confirm which drawing, artwork, color reference and physical sample form the current standard before bulk production.

Custom Wooden Box FAQ: Project Planning and Samples

These answers explain what affects quotation accuracy, minimum order quantity, drawing review and physical sample development.

Engineering review for a custom wooden box FAQ project

Clear product dimensions, quantity, finish direction, logo artwork and target timing help us give more relevant answers and identify what must be confirmed through sampling.

What information is needed for a custom wooden box quotation?
Send the product type, dimensions and weight; preferred box structure; material and finish direction; logo artwork; hardware; lining or insert requirements; quantity; target timing; and packing needs. Reference images are useful, but dimensions and product data are still required before structure and pricing can be reviewed.
What is the usual minimum order quantity?
The typical MOQ is 500 pieces per design. Structure, material, finish, hardware, insert tooling, logo process and packing can affect the practical minimum. Tell us your expected quantity so the factory can assess the correct production route rather than apply one rule to every project.
Can XRX develop a design from a product sample or concept image?
Yes. We can review physical products, drawings, renderings, reference boxes or concept images. The engineering stage converts them into confirmed dimensions, opening structure, joints, hardware positions, insert clearances and process notes. A concept is not treated as production-ready until these details are agreed.
How long does a pre-production sample take?
A typical sample takes 7–15 days after core specifications and artwork are confirmed. Complex structures, molded inserts, special hardware, color development or multi-stage lacquer may require additional time. Sample timing starts from confirmed inputs, not from the first general enquiry.

Materials and Finishes

Material and finish should be selected together because the substrate influences structure, grain, edge preparation, color and production time.

Surface preparation discussed in the custom wooden box FAQ

Clear product dimensions, quantity, finish direction, logo artwork and target timing help us give more relevant answers and identify what must be confirmed through sampling.

Which wood materials can be used for custom boxes?
Options include MDF, natural wood veneer, walnut, beech, oak, rubber wood, pine, birch, okoume and cedar for defined applications. The best choice depends on structure, visible grain, machining, finish, weight, quantity and target cost. See our material selection capability and educational Materials Guide.
Is MDF appropriate for premium wooden packaging?
Yes. MDF provides a stable, smooth engineered base for precise structures, painted colors, gloss finishes, piano lacquer and natural veneer. Premium quality depends on engineering, edge preparation, coating, hardware, lining and assembly—not on using solid wood for every component.
Can natural wood grain look identical on every box?
No. Solid wood and natural veneer vary in grain and tone. Buyers should approve the species, overall appearance, grain direction and acceptable range rather than expect every panel to copy one photograph. Sets and large lids may also require a defined grain-matching direction before material preparation.
Which surface finishes are available?
Projects may use clear varnish, stain, matte paint, gloss paint, natural veneer and selected piano-lacquer routes. Substrate, structure, gloss, logo process, schedule and packing protection affect suitability. Review the factory surface finish capabilities or the educational Finishing Guide.

Logos, Inserts, Hardware and Interiors

Exterior branding and interior fit are confirmed on the complete box so artwork, finish, product protection and presentation work as one system.

Assembly of logo, hardware and inserts for custom wooden boxes

Clear product dimensions, quantity, finish direction, logo artwork and target timing help us give more relevant answers and identify what must be confirmed through sampling.

Which logo methods can XRX provide?
Options include laser engraving, UV printing, silk-screen printing, hot stamping and metal logo plates, subject to artwork, substrate and surface compatibility. Vector artwork, real logo dimensions, placement and color or plating direction should be supplied before sampling.
What insert materials are available?
Common options include velvet-covered structures, EVA, sponge, trays, dividers, cushions and selected leather-like coverings. Product shape, weight, sensitivity, removal direction, display height and transport movement determine the suitable material, density, thickness and cavity design.
Should we send the actual product for insert development?
A physical product is strongly recommended, especially for bottles, watches, jewelry, electronics, coins and multi-item sets. Accurate 3D data and dimensions can support early engineering, but a real product helps confirm pressure, removal access, lid clearance, balance and contact with delicate surfaces.
Can hinges, locks, magnets and handles be customized?
Selected hardware styles, colors and placements can be reviewed for the structure. Hardware recesses, screw positions, lid weight, opening angle, finish clearance and interior depth are coordinated during engineering. Special components may affect sample time, minimum quantity and production schedule.

Manufacturing, Lead Time and Quality Control

The approved sample, drawings, artwork and written requirements form the current project reference through production and final packing.

Final packing and quality checks for custom wooden box orders

Clear product dimensions, quantity, finish direction, logo artwork and target timing help us give more relevant answers and identify what must be confirmed through sampling.

What is the normal bulk production lead time?
Bulk production generally takes 35–65 days, depending on quantity, material preparation, machining, veneer, coating and curing, logo work, hardware, inserts, assembly and packing. Timing is confirmed for the actual project after specifications and the production release are agreed.
Does every wooden box follow the same manufacturing process?
No. Natural solid wood, veneered MDF, painted MDF, cedar-related cigar boxes, piano-lacquer boxes and display props require different routes. Read the detailed wooden box manufacturing process for engineering, machining, finishing and assembly stages.
How is the approved sample used for bulk production?
The sample works with current drawings, artwork, material and color references, hardware, insert specifications and packing instructions. If a revision is approved, the current version must be clear before release so outdated dimensions or branding do not continue into purchasing and production.
How does XRX check product quality?
Checks are placed from incoming material and machining through sanding, finishing, branding, hardware, lining, assembly and final packing. Final review covers appearance, function, cleanliness, accessories and shipment protection. See the full wooden box quality control process.
Can buyers arrange a third-party inspection?
Yes. Buyers can discuss third-party inspection arrangements and the required timing before shipment. Inspection criteria, access, documents and any buyer-defined checklist should be confirmed in advance. XRX does not claim an inspection standard that has not been agreed for the specific order.

Pricing, Packing, Shipping and Ongoing Orders

Commercial terms and shipment preparation depend on the confirmed product, quantity, destination and buyer requirements rather than one universal arrangement.

How is custom wooden box pricing calculated?
Pricing is based on material, dimensions, structure, finish route, logo method, hardware, lining or inserts, order quantity and packing. A simple unit-price request without these details can only produce an unreliable estimate. Share the complete project direction and target quantity for a relevant quotation.
How are finished boxes packed for export?
Packing is developed around box size, finish sensitivity, hardware, accessories and shipment configuration. Individual protection, separation, internal support and outer cartons help prevent contact and movement. Highly polished surfaces generally require more protection than natural or matte products.
Which shipping terms and destinations are available?
Shipment arrangements are discussed according to destination, order volume and buyer requirements. Freight cost and delivery scope should be confirmed on the quotation or order documents. Buyers can provide their nominated forwarder or request that the applicable shipping arrangement be reviewed.
Can XRX repeat a previous order?
Yes, subject to current material and component availability. The latest approved sample, drawings, artwork and specifications should be identified before production restarts. Natural wood and veneer still vary, and any requested change to color, hardware, insert or packing should be recorded as a new revision.
How should we start an OEM or ODM project?
Send the product, dimensions, reference structure, material and finish direction, logo artwork, interior requirements, quantity, target market and schedule through the contact page. The Buying Guide can help your team prepare a more complete sourcing brief.
